There’s a whole lotta love to be found at Howard’s House Hotel this February

Howards House

With a picture-postcard location, luxurious lodgings and an indulgent gourmet line up, Howard’s House Hotel in Teffont Evias near Salisbury certainly ticks all our rose-tinted boxes when we’re looking for somewhere to cuddle up with someone special. And with a shiny ‘Britain’s Most Romantic Hotel’ award sittin’ pretty on the mantelpiece, and a recent tip off as the country’s most romantic getaway from some top foodie big-wigs, it’s clear we’re not the only ones getting starry eyed over this Wiltshire country house hotel.

It’s no surprise then that the family team behind Howard’s House is planning to pull out all the stops for St Valentine’s arrival this February. From a chilled bottle of bubbly just waiting to be popped in your elegant boudoir when you arrive on the Friday evening, to a sumptuous six course tasting menu from head chef Nick Wentworth on the Saturday night, there are some serious brownie points up for grabs when you whisk your better half away on this weekend retreat.

Set in a quintessentially British village in the idyllic Nadder Valley, the Grade II listed country house is a romantic spot at any time of year, with woodland walks and beautiful gardens for those wanting to wander (or challenge their companion to a few rounds of croquet). Inside there’s a cosy log fire and comfy chairs to snuggle up in and enjoy a good book, and a decadent afternoon tea that’s fit for a queen. Though, we wouldn’t judge if you simply chose to relax and indulge in a bit of R&R upstairs in the newly refurbished superior room.

With pan fried Brixham cod, slow roasted Wiltshire pork belly and a caramelised lemon and thyme tartlet lined up for the Valentine’s feast, as well as a three course dinner on the Friday night, at the very least you can be assured guests’ gastronomic needs will be satisfied by the end of this romantic getaway.

If the thought of a Valentine’s break is more sickly than sweet, Howard’s House has a promising alternative. The hotel’s gourmet getaway is available all year round, and showcases the beautifully fresh local and seasonal produce that can be found in this pocket of the country. Guests get to sit down with head chef Nick Wentworth and create a bespoke tasting menu tailored to their individual tastes, to be enjoyed that evening before retiring to one of the beautiful rooms.

Valentine’s weekend at Howard’s House starts at £550 per couple, while the Gourmet Getaway starts at £560 for two. Serious foodies shouldn’t miss the hotel’s Celebrate Food Week running February 1-7.
