Chandos Deli

Convenient spot for a deli lunch or a fab cup of coffee in Exeter city centre

Modern and spacious, this deli on the edge of Exeter’s Princesshay shopping area serves great coffee from Bristol-based Wogan Coffee, alongside a tempting spread of foodie treats – both to eat in and take away.

The Exeter Chandos is one of a small group of long-standing independent delis originating in Bristol and, like its sister stores, is run by a dedicated and friendly team, with specialists dedicated to different foods and drinks. There’s an excellent selection of continental and local cheeses, antipasti and meats, as well as the carefully considered range of wines, ciders and beers.

When it comes to coffee, an impressive effort is made to create the perfect cup for each customer, and the team has regular training, both in-house and with Wogan, with some of the guys also gaining extra individual qualifications in areas such as latte art.

One of the nicest things about this Chandos is its location alongside the old Roman city wall. It’s a peaceful spot, but also close to the shopping centre so is popular with day trippers and shoppers, as well as Exeter’s foodies and office workers.

Insider’s tips

The much loved chorizo sausge rolls are made on site every day – but they sell out quickly!
