Playground Coffee House

Artisan coffee in quirky, playful surroundings

Playground Coffee, which opened just a few months ago, aims to provide a unique experience, and certainly delivers on that promise – where else can you find Indian street pizza, artisan coffee, table football and more than a hundred card and board games?

The inspiration came from co-owner Lily Drakoulakou’s roots – back in Greece it’s not unusual to spend all day at a cafe drinking coffee and playing games. Lily and her partner Fabian Dryden hoped to recreate that mood, along with the best possible coffee.

There are up to four espressos on offer at any one time, including a blend created just for Playground by Andy Tucker at Clifton. ‘It’s zesty with orange citrus notes at the front and dark chocolate following through. It’s an intricate cup,’ says Fabian. ‘It’s a very different approach to a house blend.’

The other espressos are rotating single origins and the team is currently experimenting to find a secondary house blend that’ll work well with soya milk and sugar/syrup. The single origin filter coffees are well worth sampling too.
