Restaurant GL50: glam dining in central Cheltenham
Located in the elegant regency town of Cheltenham, Restaurant GL50 is an independent gem amid the lacklustre chains that crowd the town centre.
Launched in October 2019, the relaxed fine dining restaurant is the first solo venture from talented chef Jonas Lodge. With the help of wife Timea, and his experience heading up the kitchen at The Bell at Ramsbury, he’s established a new Cotswolds dining destination where local produce meets culinary creativity.
Seasonal ingredients sourced from South West producers guide an innovative menu at GL50. Jonas lets his creativity run wild and adventurous diners enjoy testing the peripheries of their palate with dishes such as raw beef with fermented parsnips, chillies and smoked beef dripping, and roasted cod with new potatoes, sorrel, smoked roe and fermented celeriac velouté.
If you’re a stickler for tradition, there are also more familiar classics among the off-piste options. It’s hard to turn down the opportunity to finish your meal with Jonas’ mum’s carrot cake with carrot sorbet, vanilla cream and a walnut and ginger crumb.
Each dish is delivered to the table by Jonas or one of the experienced chefs with tasting notes on the course, adding to the theatre of this experimental dining experience. Sommelier Javier is also on hand to guide guests through the exquisite wine list – ask him to pair your pick of the menu with his favourite bottles.
