Talland Bay Hotel

Sea views, award winning food and quirky art work

If you’re looking for the best stretch of unspoiled Cornish coastline, an uninterrupted view of the ocean, and hidden coves filled with glittering waters, Talland Bay, a stone’s skim away from Looe, is the answer.

Don’t let its enchanting, rustic innocence deceive you – there’s more to this area of outstanding natural beauty than meets the eye. Otherworldly whispers through the reeds reveal Talland’s secretive past. Pirates once used this bay to land kegs of rum, brandy and gin before smuggling the loot across a labyrinth of well-trodden paths to nearby Polperro.

The resplendent Talland Bay Hotel is the jewel in the crown that overlooks this vista. Large conservatory doors lead into the terrace with that jaw-dropping view. It’s the perfect place to contemplate the rich history of the bay, even better while sipping a glass of something delicious.

Recharge your batteries in the main hotel bedrooms, complete with vast, soft beds and bursting with life’s little luxuries. Or you could choose to escape to the self-catering cottages and pretend that your new home is straight out of the pages of an interior design magazine.

Make the most of the surroundings and explore, hike and swim up an appetite for dinner. Nick Hawke’s acclaimed fine-dining restaurant relies on the local area for its ingredients; herbs are grown in the kitchen garden, fishy highlights on the menu can be credited to the nearby shore. Every scrap on the menu is prepared in-house and is excellent. Gorge on coffee roasted venison loin (sounds bonkers, tastes delicious), followed by lemongrass panna cotta. Be sure to save space for the Cornish cheese board too.

Well worth a spot on your travel to do list, even if it’s only for a long weekend. What’s more, your luxurious stay needn’t be laced with guilt for leaving your dog behind. Your pooch will be spoiled rotten here with its own dog bed, pampering and an abundance of stick-throwing opportunities.
