The Rosevine may have a long history in classic Cornish hospitality, but this Georgian family house near Porthscatho is no longer your typical beachside retreat.

With all of the style, glamour and comfort of a boutique hotel and the privacy, independence and spontaneity of a self-catering stay, The Rosevine offers a charmingly unique base in which to enjoy a beachside break.

Restored in 2008, a quirky combination of suites and apartments with mini kitchens and dining areas, and plenty of shared spaces to relax with new friends, means guests can socialise as much – or a little – as they’d like. Though, we reckon the kids will want to explore the playroom and indoor swimming pool at the first opportunity, while parents may just have to investigate the bar and cosy drawing room.

Inspired by the abundance of quality local produce, head chef Tim Pile and his team create an inspiring bill of seasonal dishes at the hotel’s restaurant, with views over Gerran Bay providing a stunning backdrop to the food. There’s a kids menu, too, for future foodies who are welcome to dine in the restaurant until eight.

When the sun’s shining, head outside for lunch on the lawn with light dishes such as Newlyn crab sandwiches, grilled St Ives mackerel nicoise and bang bang Asian chicken to choose from. Or plump for an afternoon tea and take time over delicate finger sandwiches before smothering thick clotted cream and fruity jam over freshly baked scones.

Open to non-residents, locals can join the Friends of The Rosevine Food Card for free, which entitles the card holder and guests to 10% off food, special offers and treats throughout the year.

Insider’s tips

After a leisurely Sunday lunch in the restaurant overlooking Gerrans Bay, take a stroll down to Porthcurnick Beach for a blast of fresh Cornish sea air.
