Waterside Bistro

Neighbourhood bistro in artsy Totnes

Every town needs its go-to, all day dining place; you know the kind of thing … the early morning breakfast stop, somewhere for an easy lunch with a friend or that so-needed, post work drink. It must be friendly and have that home-from-home feel, but also where you’ll be spoilt indulging in a romantic dinner, or long drawn out evening supper with pals.

Waterside Bistro in Totnes is just such a place.

Having worked in top hotels, chef Matt Buzzo returned to his home county to create his dream restaurant. It was a vision he shared with French-born Delphine, who he’d met when he was head chef and she was manager at Livebait fish restaurant in London.

In the ten plus years since they’ve been back in the South Hams, the couple have created just the kind of place they’d like to eat, drink and socialise in. Waterside Bistro has become a Totnes institution, as loved by its loyal local following as by the many visitors to this characterful town.

Seafood features strongly on the menu, with Matt’s Seafood Platter one of their signature dishes. But there’s more to this friendly bistro – for example, a strong Mediterranean influence means you’ll also get wow-factor, authentic Italian pizza.

It’s open seven days a week from breakfast right through to evening, and even if you pitch up at some awkward time there’s a menu of light bites to tempt you into settling down and staying a while.

Matt has longstanding links with produce suppliers, many of whom come from walking distance in the town, or just a few miles. He’s forever developing new dishes, drawing on this rich source of inspiration and it’s testament to his culinary skills that you’ll find so many of his suppliers regularly eating in his restaurant.
