The Wharf House Restaurant with Rooms

Relaxed dining overlooking the River Severn

This striking red brick building is in a great setting, situated alongside the partly restored Hereford and Gloucestershire Canal. In fact, it’s quite unique in that it was built by volunteers, is owned by the H&G Canal Trust and all money raised from the restaurant and accommodation is ploughed back into the canal restoration.

Light and spacious inside with cream walls, wooden floors and tables, the restaurant serves morning and afternoon coffees, tea and cakes, light lunches and evening meals, all in a relaxed setting. It’s particularly lovely to sit outside on the terrace overlooking the River Severn, especially while enjoying a Wharf House cocktail, a blend of sparkling wine and local juices and fruits.

The kitchen team take their sourcing seriously here and there’s an enviable list of suppliers, from ciders, wines and ales to meats, dairy produce, cheeses and bakery goods. This is also somewhere to enjoy fine dining and for special occasions there’s the option of a six course tasting menu.

Staying at The Wharf House is a delight, with each of its seven individual rooms having views of the River Severn or the restored canal basin. Just on the edge of Gloucester, this is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds, the Forest of Dean and nearby Cheltenham. Or you can simply stay put, enjoy the Wharf’s food and hospitality, and enjoy discovering the canalside walks.
