Boringdon Hall’s tree-enclosed, hill-top setting makes a dramatic backdrop to the culinary alchemy which takes place within its ancient walls. With records that stretch back as far as the Domesday Book, the Elizabethan manor house is a truly memorable dining destination and its Gallery Restaurant – overlooking the Great Hall – sets the scene for an evening of gastronomic thrills.
Head chef Scott Paton surprises and delights with innovative dishes dictated by seasonal produce and locally sourced ingredients. The new seven course tasting menu (available from October until December) explores Devon’s land and sea and features such swoon-inducing compilations as Brixham crab with curried emulsion, mango, cardamom and lime. Epicurious vegetarian and vegan guests get their own tasting menu of plant-based dishes.
The uber-luxe experience is taken up another notch with an expertly paired wine flight. The evening kicks off with canapes and a glass of Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle before the exploration of taste, texture and terroir continues through six wine-matched courses.
If you should be the lucky winner of this competition, why not push the boat out and extend your visit with a stay in one of the hotel’s contemporary bedrooms? Inducements to stay a while longer won’t be needed once you’ve spied the sumptuous new spa.
