When it’s blowing a hooley outside, the friendly warmth of The Morley couldn’t be more tempting. Moroccan-inspired interiors meet traditional pub comforts at this Plymouth fave (think crackling open fire and pooches snoozing in the corner) to create an inviting setting for dinner with loved ones.

The spacious bar, with its extensive drinks list and views over the waterfront, is a popular spot to settle down with a tipple to peruse the tempting food menu. The laid-back bar makes a casual setting for a hearty supper but the more refined restaurant is where our winner (and lucky companion) will get to experience head chef Lewis Craig’s culinary talents.

The creative chef knows a thing or two about crafting crowd-pleasing dishes and uses locally sourced produce to make classic compilations shine. Go trad with the likes of chicken and mushroom terrine, braised lamb shank and warm chocolate and caramel brownie – or clash forks with friends over a veggie, meat or seafood grazing platter.

After testing the capacity of your waistband’s elasticity, swing by The Gin House in the gardens to enjoy a unique tasting session. The impressive emporium includes a stonking 268 gins.
