Nestled in a charming corner of the Cotswolds and swathed in lush greenery and landscaped gardens, 17th century Lords of the Manor enjoys a setting straight out of the opening scenes of a romantic costume drama.
Eight acres of grounds enclose the timeless retreat in a world of its own, allowing guests to revel in the luxury of not doing much at all – or embark on an adventure from one of the many paths that sprout from its gardens.
Inside the grand manor house, meanwhile, a collection of stylish suites, lounges and a well-stocked bar make hunkering down with your latest page-turner even more appealing.
The drama ramps up at dinner when the narrative takes a creative turn courtesy of executive chef Charles Smith and his talented kitchen brigade. The newly opened restaurant, Atrium at Lords of the Manor, is the stage for an evening of gastronomic thrills in which Charles challenges guests to explore taste and texture through eight wine-matched courses.
The young chef’s distinctive tasting menus read like a seemingly random assortment of artisanal ingredients. However, in the execution they wow thanks to innovative combinations such as smoked eel and foie gras press with seaweed and roasted onion broth. With just 16 covers and a seasonal bill which changes daily, this is a unique dining experience.
