Dose up on inner calm and be kind to your body in 2025 by booking a stay at one of these wellness breaks for the new year
Louma, Dorset
Want to feel as though you’re being truly looked after? Louma is the place. Deep in the Dorset countryside, this farm and retreat just outside Bridport flexes a converted barn-cum-spa that’s flooded with natural light while the weatherboarding walls and ceiling create a cosy-yet-giant sauna vibe.
The farm-to-fork menu elevates the experience by a few considerable notches. Think braai in the summer, wood-fired pizza lunches and giant garden salads, while homemade jams and home-cured delicacies are highlights of the breakfast menu. Let the shoulders drop an inch or two at the hands of a therapist in one of the outdoor massage huts, then detoxify and boost brain health in the sauna, or just burn all that stress off – if that’s your retreat thing – at the state-of-art gym which includes a skillmill (a fancy treadmill) and a bespoke range of BLK BOX weights. At the end of a retreating day, collapse in a comfy bed in one of the shepherd’s huts or stable apartments, while further bedroom bliss can can be found in the main house itself.
Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall
As one of the pillars of good health, 2025 really should be the year of better sleep. Fortunately Scarlet Hotel is all over this important approach to wellness, as one of this Cornish spa’s retreat packages is a Restorative Sleep Break.
A package that promises to restore balance and rest, and in doing so returning guests back to peak health, it includes a 90-minute Sarvagna treatment which induces a deep state of slumber and a 30-minute clifftop hot tub session. The cold-water therapy from a dip in the outside natural reed pool takes the body in the opposite direction, refreshing a tired mind while calming the nervous system. Bedrooms are kitted out with breathwork and sleep gifts to further improve sleep mojo. It makes for fantastic new-year revitalisation, whether travelling solo or as part of a larger group, plus it hits the spot for those who are seeking a phone detox. The break also includes full use of spa facilities – including yoga and wellbeing classes. Namaste.
Mello View, Somerset
If going totally off-grid is on your bucket list, check out Mello View. You may recognise it from Channel 4’s Grand Designs. The self-sufficient smallholding has been running endorphin-inducing stays since 2018 when owners Vicky and Ed refurbished their crumbling 1950s concrete cowshed in Winsham.
Set among jaw-dropping views of the Axe Valley, the property offers lo-fi escapist ideals such as Pilates (Vicky is a trained Pilates instructor) and incredible grub (care of Ed). Using herbs, veggies and meat reared on their land, Ed creates everything on the menu, from feasts for a private dinner to next-level hampers for day trippers. Not forgetting one of the very best low-mile breakfasts around which includes homemade sausages, home-cured bacon and eggs from the field’s flock. Tranquility is the name of the game at Mello View, so bring your book, sketching tools and fave board game to enjoy while breathing in the dreamy peace.
The Pig-in the Cotswolds
One of the newest in the litter, The Pig-in the Cotswolds is a honey-hued 17th-century Grade-II beauty in the chocolate box village of Barnsley. Notwithstanding the trademark squishy soft furnishings and 25-mile restaurant menu, the Fieldhouse just across the road is what really seals the deal here as a retreat hunter’s paradise.
At the end of a winding path through the ornamental gardens – created by celebrated designer Rosemary Verey – is Fieldhouse, where treatments use products from Tribe517, a family-run natural skincare brand based in south Wales. Warm flickering candles and honey stone walls set the serene scene which includes five treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam room and a relaxation room. There’s even a nail room to perfect the polish and cuticles (that’s therapy too, obvs) but before indulging in all that, blow off the cobwebs on arrival with a dip in the outdoor heated hydrotherapy plunge pool.
Yoga Field & Sea, Devon
Retreat addicts who love the outdoors, bookmark this. Sanctuary specialists Yoga Field & Sea offer a range of immersive and luxurious breaks with a full (but not too full) itinerary of mood-boosting activities.
Energising and restorative yoga (suitable for all ages and abilities) is a must-try, as is a bracing walk along the coastal path. Don’t forget to join the secluded beach tour or learn to paddleboard, and tick that 2025 new year’s resolution box by wild swimming in the invigorating salty waters of the South Devon sea. Each retreat is hosted at one of three Devon venues: Higher Poole in Slapton, The Old Bakehouse in Torcross and East Soar Farm, a National Trust farm just outside Salcombe. All of the retreats include fresh, nourishing and delicious food, from the breakfasts to excursion snacks.
