Fine-dining restaurant Puro has long provided the residents of Clevedon near Bristol with high-quality cooking and fine wines, but has just taken its gourmet offering next level by welcoming ex-Epicurean chef Tommy Thorn to the fold in a new collaboration
Tommy, who was head chef at field-to-fork restaurant The Epicurean in Wrington (which closed in September 2023), has joined forces with Puro owners Dom and Alex Lamy in the creation of Puro by Tommy Thorn.
Dom Lamy says: ‘We are absolutely over the moon to have Tommy joining us at Puro. We have no doubt that Tommy will elevate the food at Puro to the best it’s ever been, and how lucky for the people of Clevedon to have this right on their doorstep!‘
When we visited recently, we found the Masterchef: The Professionals finalist crafting beautifully presented fine-dining dishes in tasting and à la carte menus, paired with wines influenced by the Lamy’s upstairs wine bar Vintage & Vine.
‘I’m delighted to be taking on a new concept with Puro. I’ve been talking with Dom for a long time now and we both have the same vision and goals when it comes to providing great food and service. I feel like it’s time that I take something hands on as my own and I love the opportunities that Puro has as an established restaurant. I’m keen to serve food based around local and seasonal produce as well as influences from around the world,’ says Tommy.
The team have exciting plans afoot, which kicked off with a guest slot from chef Carl Cleghorn who, until recently, headed up the kitchen of Thornbury Castle and is now owner of modern British pop-up restaurant Tyme, which hosts dinners and events in Bristol and South Wales.
Dom and Alex also own Escala restaurant in Clevedon. Read our recent review.
