Somerset’s gourmets are becoming restless in the run-up to Wells Food Festival on October 12
Wells Food Festival will return for its thirteenth – and biggest ever – year of celebrating all things artisan food and drink in England’s smallest city.
The free-to-attend festival is a cracking event for all the family to get involved in. Adults can appreciate the 200 indie producers scattered across the Artisan Market selling excitingly diverse culinary delights, as well as the range of street-food sellers cooking up sizzling street eats. Who wouldn’t want to chomp their way around a market that deals in handmade dim sum at one stall, then traditional Somerset cheddar at the next? All of the unique bites can be washed down with craft drinks such as fresh kombucha and locally distilled gin and tonic.
Little ones, meanwhile, can satiate rumbling tums at the Children’s Zone, featuring a bite-size versions of the street food, reworked for smaller appetites. If all of the scoffing fires up inspiration, young visitors can take part in the pop-up cookery school Little Joe’s Kitchen, and adults can hit The School of Fish cookery workshop.
Additional highlights will include the Celebration of English Wine marquee on Palace Green, activities and upcycling workshops at headline sponsor Charlie Bigham’s feature area. There will also be thoughtful discussions taking place at the Food for Thought marquee, which will see industry experts shine a spotlight on sustainability issues and innovation.
