Make your way to Newlyn’s Tolcarne Inn this season for a truly memorable wine and dine experience
Newlyn locals and discerning foodies will be delighted to hear that Tolcarne Inn’s Winter Warmer Wine Suppers are back by popular demand this year. Head chef Ben Tunnicliffe has reintroduced the special culinary experience – at the same great value – following a triumphant run of the seasonal suppers in 2022.
Come winter, there’s nothing quite as soul-nourishing as escaping the coastal gales to cosy up by a roaring fire in a relaxed dining pub with loved ones. It’s a feeling that can only be made more exquisite when teamed with feasting on quality dishes and sipping superb wines, which is exactly what Tolcarne Inn’s suppers offer.
Head chef and restaurateur Ben, who has a Michelin-starred history and took over Tolcarne Inn in 2012, has devised a new creative menu for the occasion, which puts net-fresh fish and seasonal, local ingredients front and centre of each sumptuous dish.
Although all dishes are subject to change due to seasonal availability and what’s just landed in the harbour, expect to enjoy the likes of home-smoked trout with marinated mackerel and lightly pickled squid; hake, jerusalem artichoke lyonnaise, smoked tomato and thyme butter sauce; plus toothsome puds such as steamed treacle sponge, cider baked quince and crème fraîche sorbet.
Each dish will be paired with a fine wine, carefully picked by the oenophiles at Ellis Wharton Wines, who will proffer a standard or premium wine flight to suit guests’ budgets.
The menu is available Monday – Saturday evenings in December, January and February (excluding December 18-31). Winter Warmer Wine Suppers cost £28 for two courses or £35 for three. A standard wine flight costs £11 for two courses or £15 for three. The premium wine flight costs £18 for two courses or £25 for three.
