One lucky reader and their guest will win the chance to bag front-row seats to the kitchen action at The View in Exeter. The slick restaurant and rooftop bar may be housed on the eighth floor of Courtyard by Marriott Exeter Sandy Park, but don’t let the corporate setting fool you. Chef-proprietor Matt Mason (pictured) and his family (wife Joanne is senior maître d’ while son Charlie is restaurant manager and sommelier) have smashed the chain-hotel dining mould by cultivating a friendly, family-run restaurant in this sleek penthouse location.

Matt’s long experience of cooking in high-end Devon restaurants has garnered him a culinary fan club (you may have enjoyed his food during his 25-year tenure at The Jack in the Green or chef-director stint at Winslade Manor). The chef’s dishes reflect an experienced hand and long-standing relationships with quality local producers.
