Twenty years after we first launched Food Magazine, its new incarnation is about to drop
Food Magazine has hit the big 2-0 and evolved into a new quarterly bookazine that’s the ultimate bible for discerning readers who want to discover the best places to eat, stay, shop and visit in the South West of England each season. We’ve named it Food Lifestyle.
Editor Jo Rees explains: ‘When we launched Food Magazine 20 years ago it was the first local food magazine ever published in the UK. Now, 200 issues later, it has evolved into Food Lifestyle to feed the interests of those who, like us, not only love good food but also delight in outdoor adventures, wellness experiences, beautiful interiors, fine wine, arts and crafts, and finding off‑the‑beaten‑track joys.
‘Sustainability, authenticity and independence are at the core of the magazine and our aim is to help our readers – both in the South West and way beyond – find the coolest places to eat, stay, shop and visit in this beautiful part of the world. We want to make it easy for them to discover the creative, beautiful and unusual finds in a world of mass‑market experiences.’
The printed magazine has had a full design overhaul and been treated to lots more pages and a different format.
What’s in the spring issue
Jo says: ‘We’re delighted to have more room to feature some of the best finds in the region. In this spring issue we’ve interviewed South West tastemaker and Barbie pop artist Emma Gibbons, Masterchef: The Professionals rising-star chef Ayesha Kalaji shares her story and her favourite haunts in Glastonbury, and we delve into the ‘ruralcool’ revolution via visits to Coombeshead Farm, Crocadon, Nancarrow and The Collective at Woolsery.
‘We’ve also curated five fabulous weekend breaks in East Devon and visited Watergate Bay Hotel in Cornwall to discover how to squeeze every every last drop of deliciousness from 24 hours at the South West’s coolest surf hotel. And in the issue’s two ‘five of the best’ features we identify fabulous spa breaks in Cornwall and lush lifestyle stores in the South West that should be on your hit list.’
In addition, readers will find restaurant reviews, recipes from celeb chef Emily Scott, a drinks column from TV’s Susy Atkins, a column from Michelin-starred chef Scott Paton and a tutorial from leading Trencherman’s Guide chefs, plus lots more.
Jo says: ‘We’re thrilled to work with the best in the region – from interviewees to writers, advertisers and stockists. Pulling the best independent businesses together supports creativity and independence in sectors that are under pressure from multinational corporations. We like to work with businesses where you can name the owner and actually talk to them.’
