Bath’s The Griffin Inn relaunches under new ownership

The Griffin Inn, Bath

The team behind the city’s renowned Japanese restaurant have taken over historic dine-and-stay destination The Griffin Inn

Roger Payne, owner of Robun, has relaunched The Griffin Inn – a Grade II-listed pub with rooms on Monmouth Street in Bath’s city centre.

In preparation for the reopening, which took place on April 6, Roger and team undertook a sympathetic refurbishment of the Georgian inn’s taproom, parlour, snug and eight individually styled bedrooms to showcase the building’s period features.

For the time being, The Griffin Inn will operate as a pub with a handpicked wine list, artisan spirits and craft cocktails (plus bar snacks), with an extended food offering and accommodation to launch later this year. Dishes on the daily-changing menues will include the likes of chargrilled chicken and labneh salad, salmon rillettes on sourdough, and charcuterie boards. There’ll also be classic pub fare such as homemade pies and next-level Sunday lunches.

‘I’m over the moon to be taking over The Griffin Inn and am committed to running an establishment that Bath can be proud of. This wonderful pub with rooms has a long-held reputation for its quality offering and positive atmosphere, so we will look to build upon this and create a space where Bath’s locals and visitors can come together to enjoy a lively but laid-back environment,‘ said Roger.

‘Having launched our Japanese restaurant in Bath just two years ago, I’m delighted to be taking on this new challenge and contributing further to the city’s revitalised hospitality scene.’
