No one knows how to sniff out a top-notch coffee shop quite like a local roaster. So, in the first of our new series we’ve asked the guys at Extract Coffee Roasters to spill the beans on the best brews in Dorset

Le Petit Prince Patisserie, Wimborne and Westbourne

A cracking coffee is best imbibed with a wedge of something indulgently carby at this award winning pair of bakeries. Scooping three Taste of Dorset Awards in 2017, the gang like their beans sweet, big bodied and with a subtle fruity note.

Ecco Gelato, Sherborne

It’s never too cold for ice cream, especially when it’s homemade gelato. The single origin espresso at Ecco is rich with flavours of dark chocolate and caramel. Certified organic and approved by the Soil Association, sip it alongside a chocolate waffle cone or pour it straight over a scoop of vanilla.

Oxford’s Bakery, Sherborne

Baking bread before artisan bakeries earned their hipster stripes, four generations of loaf labourers have been kneading the good stuff at Oxford’s since 1911. Historic it may be, but the coffee has risen to modern day heights. Bask in a balance of hazelnuts, caramel and cocoa in their silky flat white.

Soulshine Cafe, Bridport

Dishing out positive vibes by the cup, this bright Bridport cafe is a cheery spot for a damn good brew. Choose between the stellar house espresso or guest single origin coffee – recent residencies include the jammy Strong Man Espresso – before your Instagrammable brekkie.

Duchess of Cornwall, Dorchester

Sink into a cushiony Chesterfield and luxuriate in hints of caramel and liquorice sweetness at this Poundbury bar, restaurant and inn. Indulge in the expertly roasted house espresso, Colourful Coffee, from dawn ‘til dusk.

The Paddle, Christchurch

Taking inspiration from antipodean coffee culture, the team behind The Paddle have created a dreamy den of delicious drinks and fantastic fodder. With a wood-fired pizza oven and knockout views of the park, swing by for brunch, lunch or just a shot of incredible espresso.

Boston Tea Party, Ringwood

The guys at Boston Tea Party are serious about a good brew; they send every barista to Extract HQ to swot up. Housed in Ringwood’s historic Frampton’s Mill, get stuck into the new house espresso or guest coffee.

The Bay, Lyme Regis

This seaside haunt opened as a pop-up in 2017 and was such a hit that the team are making a comeback this summer. The Extract beans on offer are sourced ethically from a family farm and co-op in Peru: expect a bold chocolatey hit with notes of black cherry.
