Adam Handling

Multi-award-winning chef Adam Handling to open new dining pub The Tartan Fox in Cornwall this spring

A historic Grade II-listed building nestled in picturesque countryside between Newquay and Truro, formerly known as Carvynick House, is being transformed into Adam Handling’s latest epicurean escape. The dining destination – complete with a restaurant, bar and two private dining rooms – will embody his philosophy of ‘sustainable, local luxury’.

‘I’ve always loved Cornwall so when this opportunity came up it was one I just couldn’t refuse,’ says Adam, whose other successful ventures include Ugly Butterfly near St Ives and The Loch & The Tyne in Old Windsor. ‘It’s amazing to have the chance to combine the history of this stunning building with sustainable British food, made from local Cornish ingredients. Cornwall is such a popular holiday destination, as well as a home to so many wonderful locals and it’s an absolute dream to be able to have two venues here.’

Like Ugly Butterfly, The Tartan Fox chefs will source produce locally and Adam plans to cultivate homegrown ingredients from the venue’s garden, including vegetables, herbs and flowers. The food offering will be similar to that of The Loch & the Tyne, which has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and three AA rosettes. Expect to feast on casual snacks, pub classics and signature Adam Handling dishes, accompanied by an extensive wine list and a selection of sustainable cocktails and local beers.

The Barn at The Tartan Fox will offer additional capacity and be hirable for weddings, parties and events for 100+ guests.
